A 40 ft platform = 46 ft working height. The big lift. For big-box construction, large warehouse retrofits, ceiling work above 35 ft, and any job where 32 ft just isn’t enough.
The two refurbished options:
- Genie GS-4047 — 46″ wide deck, 770 lb capacity, ~6,871 lb stowed (we stock 2016–2019 model years)
- Skyjack SJIII4740 — 46″ wide deck, 700 lb capacity, ~7,100 lb stowed
We sell at two tiers:
- Fully Serviced from $13,000 — tested components, fresh ANSI/OSHA inspection, optional new parts à la carte
- Fully Refurbished from $15,800 (Skyjack SJIII4740) or $16,800 (Genie GS-4047) — new batteries, new tires, new charger, rebuilt control box, full hydraulic inspection, complete sand-down + repaint to factory-fresh
Shipped nationwide in an enclosed trailer.

What 40 ft works for
This is the lift you reach for when 32 ft can’t get there. Common use cases:
- Big-box retail construction — ceiling fixtures and HVAC in stores with 35+ ft ceilings
- Distribution centers — top-rack pallet work, ceiling-mount conveyor service
- Warehouse retrofits — sprinkler heads, lighting upgrades, ceiling renovations
- Industrial facility maintenance — anything in the 35–46 ft working-height range
Not for: tight aisles (46″ wide deck), upper-floor decks with tight load ratings (~6,500–6,800 lb), or outdoor rough terrain (slab lifts only).
Genie GS-4047 vs Skyjack SJIII4740
Same working height, same platform width, same 24V drive. Both are big, mature platforms with widely available parts. Decision usually comes down to brand preference and what’s in stock the day you need to ship.

What about 50 ft scissor lifts?
We get this question a lot. Genie and Skyjack do make 50+ ft electric scissor lifts (GS-5390, SJ5545 E), but Win Win doesn’t refurbish them — the volume is low and they’re a different service profile. If you genuinely need above 46 ft working height, two options:
- Rent for the job. Bigrentz, United Rentals, and Sunbelt all stock 50 ft electric slab lifts.
- Use a boom lift. A JLG E300 AJP gets you 36 ft working height with horizontal reach via the articulating jib — different geometry than a scissor, but useful when you can’t position a tall scissor right under the work.
Call us — we’ll tell you straight up whether one of our 40 ft units fits your job, or whether you should rent up.
What “fully refurbished” means
Same standard on every 40 ft unit:
- New batteries. Fresh 24V flooded lead-acid pack, watered and load-tested.
- New tires. Non-marking, indoor-grade.
- New charger. Tested through a full charge cycle.
- Rebuilt control box. Joystick, switches, e-stops on platform and ground.
- Hydraulic system inspected every time. Fluid tested and replaced only if outside spec.
- Full ANSI/OSHA inspection. Certificate and photos go with the unit.
- Paint — done to order. Sanded down, primed, repainted to factory-fresh, decals replaced.
Lead time and delivery
- Already-refurbished, ready to ship: 1–2 weeks (freight only)
- Refurbishment from time of payment: 3 weeks baseline
Enclosed-trailer freight nationwide. Free pickup at our Addison, IL yard for any buyer.
Frequently asked questions
What’s the working height of a 40 ft scissor lift?
46 ft. ANSI working height = platform height + 6 ft.
Can a 40 ft scissor lift work outdoors?
On smooth, level surfaces, yes. The GS-4047 and SJIII4740 are slab machines — not built for rough terrain or any meaningful slope. For outdoor construction sites with dirt or gravel, you want a rough-terrain scissor lift, which we don’t sell.
How heavy is a 40 ft scissor lift?
6,500–6,900 lb stowed. Floor load is a real consideration on upper decks at this size.
Why is the GS-4047 heavier than the SJIII4740?
Different scissor-stack geometry. The GS-4047 carries 200 extra lb of capacity (770 vs 700) and the structure scales with that.
Can I rent before I buy?
Yes — 40 ft rentals are $275/day from our Chicagoland yard. See 40 ft rental details.
How long until you can deliver?
1–2 weeks for ready-to-ship. 3 weeks from payment if we’re refurbishing.
