Before your scissor lift arrives in Lake County
A little prep makes delivery day go smoothly. Walk the route the lift will take from the truck to the work area and check the narrowest opening, the floor surface and anything overhead.
- Doors and aisles: our 19 ft and narrow 26 ft models are 30–32 inches wide; the wide-deck 26–40 ft models are 46–47 inches. Measure the tightest opening on the route, not just the main door.
- Floor: electric slab scissors are built for concrete, asphalt and other firm, level surfaces. Soft ground, steep ramps or gravel call for a different machine, so tell us ahead of time.
- Overhead: look for sprinkler lines, lights and ductwork inside, and power lines near any outdoor work.
- Elevators and dock plates: if the lift has to ride a freight elevator or cross a dock plate, compare its weight rating with the machine weight on the serial plate or our spec sheet before delivery day.
- Charging: plan on a standard outlet where the lift can charge overnight so it starts every shift with a full battery.
Safe operation basics
OSHA requires anyone operating a scissor lift to be trained on that type of machine. Before going up each shift, the operator should do a quick walk-around:
- Check the guardrails, entry gate and platform deck for damage.
- Test the emergency stop and the lowering function from the ground controls.
- Look for hydraulic leaks, damaged tires and loose or chafed wiring.
- Make sure the tilt alarm and pothole guards work.
Never exceed the platform’s rated capacity, never stand on the guardrails, and only drive with the platform raised on firm, level ground. If something does not seem right, lower the platform and call us at 773-790-7299 so we can help sort it out.
Need the lift for longer than planned? Call us before the rental period ends to ask about extending it, or about a different height if the job has changed.
Indoor or outdoor?
Electric slab scissors are quiet, produce no exhaust and run on non-marking tires, which is why they suit warehouses, offices, schools and retail spaces. Some models are rated for indoor use only, while others can work outdoors on paved, level ground with a reduced platform capacity. Tell us where the work is and we will match a machine rated for it.
Which scissor lift size do you need?
Match the lift to your ceiling and your narrowest doorway. Working height is roughly platform height plus 6 ft.
- 19 ft (Genie GS-1930, Skyjack SJIII3219): 25 ft working height, 30–32 in wide, so it rolls through a standard doorway. Good for ceilings, lighting and retail fit-outs.
- 26 ft (Genie GS-2632/GS-2646, Skyjack SJIII3226/SJIII4626): 32 ft working height in a 32 in or 46 in chassis. Warehouses, gyms, sprinkler and HVAC work.
- 32 ft (Genie GS-3232/GS-3246, Skyjack SJIII4632): 38 ft working height for high-bay warehouses and big-box stores.
- 40 ft (Genie GS-4047, Skyjack SJIII4740): 45 ft working height, 47 in wide, for tall distribution centers and atriums.
Not sure? Send us the ceiling height and the narrowest opening the lift has to pass through in Lake County, and we will match the machine for you.
