The Genie GS-3246 is the 32-foot wide-deck standard — 46-inch platform, 700-pound capacity, the machine warehouses buy when a narrow deck won’t cut it. We repair, inspect, and refurbish them at our Addison, IL shop. We pick yours up and diagnose it the same day; straightforward fixes go back the next day, complex problems get an honest timeline before any work starts. Call 773-790-7299. This page also covers the wide-deck siblings GS-2046 and GS-2646.

Common GS-3246 problems — check these before you call

Won’t lift or won’t do anything: e-stops at both stations, key switch, then the batteries — a weak 24V pack sheds functions before it quits. Ground controls working while platform controls don’t points upstream of the joystick.

Lifts partway then stops, or drops to slow: at 32 feet the GS-3246 leans hard on its height sensor and tilt system — an off-level reading (LL) or a height-sensor calibration fault (F034–F036) inhibits lift on purpose. Move to flat ground first, then check the display.

Won’t drive but lifts fine: drive-circuit codes (H013–H021) or a stuck pothole guard (PHS on the display) — look underneath before anything else.

Won’t charge: charger LED first. Solid red = internal F-code (usually replacement); flashing amber = external E-code — battery voltage, connections, or a mismatched charge profile. E-0-0-4 (defective battery) and E-0-2-0 (no profile) lead the league.

Drifts down overnight: down valve not seating or a bypassing lift cylinder — a shop job on a machine this tall, quoted before we touch it.

GS-3246 display codes — status vs. fault

SmartLink-equipped GS46 units (LCD at ground controls) show status codes that aren’t malfunctions — LL (off-level), PHS (pothole guard stuck), OL (overload), CH/CHrgr (charger connected), br (brake released) — and fault codes across five families: H (hydraulic-function circuits), P (power devices), U (switches/joystick), F (sensors), C (control modules). The ones that put GS-3246s on our truck:

CodeMeaningEffect
H001–H003Platform up circuit short/openNo lift
H013–H021Drive forward/reverse circuit faultNo drive in that direction
H033 / H079Hi/lo speed circuit faultLocked to low (or high) speed
H067–H072Motor controller enable/throttle faultDown-only
P001 / P003Switched power circuit short (limit/pothole/tilt harness)All functions inhibited
U033–U035Drive joystick out of calibration or shortedNo drive/steer from platform
U037–U039Foot switch pressed at startup / mis-wiredAll functions inhibited
F005 / F007Pothole or chassis tilt switch shortDown-only while elevated
F008 / F009Platform overload transducer shortAll functions inhibited
F010 / F011Platform height sensor shortDown-only while elevated
F034–F036Height sensor out of calibrationAll inhibited — needs recalibration
F129Universal tilt sensor mismatchAll inhibited — sensor replacement
C021 / C025Platform controls not detected / overload system not calibratedAll functions inhibited
C058 / C061 / C063Drive controller voltage, power or CAN faultAll functions inhibited

Got a different code, or an older non-SmartLink GS-3246 without a display? Call 773-790-7299 with the serial number — older generations use different diagnostics and we work on all of them. GS-2646AV owners: your powered deck adds its own codes (H106–H115, F072/F073); call with yours.

Charger codes and the battery-profile gotcha

F-0-0-1 through F-0-0-5 are internal charger faults (30-second disconnect reset, then replacement if persistent). E-codes point outward: E-0-0-1/2 voltage high/low, E-0-0-3 timeout, E-0-0-4 defective battery, E-0-0-7 amp-hour limit, E-0-1-2 reverse polarity, E-0-2-3/E-0-2-5 AC supply problems (undersized generators, classically). Swap between flooded and AGM packs and the charger profile must be reprogrammed (P001/P003 flooded, P043 AGM) — included with every battery install we do.

Annual inspection, pricing, and the honest math

Annual ANSI/OSHA inspection — due within 13 months of the last one: $225 in-shop, $350 on-site across Chicagoland, same-day certificate pre-scheduled, renewal reminders included. Repairs $150/hr plus parts, quoted after same-day diagnosis. If the estimate crosses roughly half the machine’s value, we’ll say so and show you a refurbished GS-3246 with a fresh inspection already on it.

GS-3246 service FAQ

What batteries does a Genie GS-3246 take?
Four 6-volt Group GC2 batteries — T-105 flooded standard, AGM optional. Charger profile must match the battery type. We install Crown deep-cycle batteries to this spec — a US-built pack that outlasts the cheap imports.

What hydraulic oil and how much?
AW46 hydraulic oil is our shop standard (Genie’s manual lists Chevron Rando HD ISO 32); 3.4-gallon tank, 5.5 gallons total system on the GS-3246.

My GS-3246 shows LL and won’t lift — broken?
Probably just off-level — at this height the tilt system is strict. Flat ground first; if LL persists on a level floor, the tilt sensor needs attention.

Do you service the GS-2646 and GS-2046 too?
Yes — same GS46 wide-deck family, same electrical system, plus the whole GS line: Genie scissor lift service.

GS-3246 or Skyjack SJIII4632?
The 32-ft wide-deck rivalry — we sell and service both: honest side-by-side here.
