Genie GS-1930 vs Skyjack SJIII3219 — Which 19 ft Scissor Lift Is the Better Buy?

Two 19 ft narrow-deck scissor lifts at the same price.

Where each wins, where they’re equivalent, and how to pick — from a dealer that refurbishes both.

If you’re shopping for a 19 ft electric scissor lift, you’re really picking between two machines: the Genie GS-1930 and the Skyjack SJIII3219. They’ve been the standard narrow-deck 19 ft electric slab lifts for two decades. We refurbish both at our shop in Addison, IL, and we get this question constantly:

“Which one should I actually buy?”

Honest answer: they’re closer than you think. Both work. Pick by the differences below — but if you’re losing sleep over the decision, you’re overthinking it.

At a glance — head-to-head specs

Genie GS-1930 Skyjack SJIII3219
Working height 25 ft 25 ft
Platform height 19 ft 19 ft
Platform width 32″ 32″
Platform length ~87″ ~86″
Deck extension 3 ft 3 ft
Capacity 500 lb 500 lb
Drive Electric, 24V DC Electric, 24V DC
Stowed weight ~2,929 lb ~3,000 lb
Stowed height 6 ft 7 in 6 ft 5 in
Lift speed ~22 sec ~25 sec
Fully Serviced from $6,000 $6,000
Fully Refurbished from $7,900 $7,900

Bottom line: same working height, same deck width, same capacity, same drive system, same weight class. The differences are at the edges.

Where the GS-1930 wins

  • Slightly faster lift cycle — about 22 seconds platform-up vs ~25 for the Skyjack. Add it up across a workday and it’s noticeable, but it doesn’t change the kind of jobs the lift can do.
  • Refurb market depth in the U.S. — Genies are everywhere. Acquiring used GS-1930s for refurb is straightforward for us, which means we more often have them in stock.
  • Operator familiarity — if your team has run Genies for years, the GS-1930 controls and feel are the path of least resistance.

Where the SJIII3219 wins

  • Stowed height — 6 ft 5 in vs the Genie’s 6 ft 7 in. Two inches doesn’t sound like much until you’re trying to clear an 80-inch service door. Sometimes that’s the entire decision.
  • Modular control box — Skyjack’s control box is service-friendly. When something does fail (and on a 10-year-old refurb, something will eventually), it’s easier to diagnose and faster to fix. Lower lifetime service cost.
  • Lower acquisition cost on the used market — typically $200–$500 less expensive than the equivalent-vintage Genie at auction. We pass some of that through in our refurb pricing.

Where they’re identical (which is most things)

  • 25 ft working height
  • 500 lb capacity
  • 32″ platform width
  • 24V DC battery system
  • Indoor-grade non-marking tires
  • Same general fit for warehouse, retail, and facility maintenance work in the 25 ft working-height range

For 90% of buyers, either machine fits the job.

Real-world: what we replace, on average

We refurbish dozens of 19 ft units a year. Here’s what we typically have to address on each platform — these aren’t show-stoppers, but they’re useful to know:

Common GS-1930 service items:

  • Pivot pin / bushing wear in the scissor stack (Genie has a known wear pattern here on older units)
  • Battery cable corrosion at the terminals
  • Function-switch failures on the upper control panel of mid-2010s units

Common SJIII3219 service items:

  • Drive motor brushes on units with high hour counts
  • Hydraulic seal weep on older 2008–2012 units
  • Charger output relay aging on units that sat in storage

We replace these as part of refurbishment. They’re not deal-breakers on either platform; they’re just the items that show up most often.

The verdict by use case

Warehouse drop ceiling work (most common): either. Both machines stow under 7 ft, fit through standard service doors, and reach 25 ft cleanly.

Retail buildouts: either. We’d give a slight nod to the SJIII3219 for the lower stowed height — useful when you’re navigating drop-ceiling channels in active stores.

Facility maintenance teams: the GS-1930 if your service team is already trained on Genie. The SJIII3219 if you want lower service cost long-term.

One-off contractor purchase: whichever is in stock the day you call.

Fleet standardization: GS-1930 if you’re already running a Genie fleet; SJIII3219 if Skyjack. Mixed fleets work fine — parts are widely available for both.

Buy refurbished or buy new on either machine?

The math here is the same on both:

  • New (current production: GS-1932 E-Drive or SJ3215/19 E): roughly $25,000–$30,000 plus a 3-month lead time
  • Refurbished from Win Win: roughly $8,300–$12,500 plus 3 weeks from payment

You’re saving $15,000+ either way going refurbished. The reliability gap on a properly refurbished 5–6 year old unit (new batteries, new tires, new charger, rebuilt control box, full inspection, full repaint) versus a brand-new unit is small. The cost gap is enormous.

For most buyers, refurb wins on either platform.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Genie GS-1930 still in production?
The current Genie production model in this class is the GS-1932 E-Drive. The legacy GS-1930s we refurbish are well-understood machines with widely available parts.

Is the Skyjack SJIII3219 still in production?
The current Skyjack production model in this class is the SJ3215/19 E. The SJIII series is in the refurb market — same logic as the Genie.

Can I rent before I buy?
Yes. 19 ft rentals are $140/day from our Chicagoland yard. Rent first if you’re not sure which platform you prefer. 19 ft rental details.

What’s the typical refurbished price difference between the two?
Usually within $500–$1,000 of each other for the same vintage. Genies trend slightly higher in refurb pricing because demand is higher.

Are parts interchangeable between the two?
No — they’re different platforms. But parts for both are widely available through aftermarket suppliers and dealer networks. Neither presents a long-term parts risk.

What’s the warranty after refurb?
We back our refurbishment work with a service guarantee on the rebuilt components. Same standard on both machines.

Which one ships faster?
Whichever we have ready on the lot. Refurb-from-payment lead time is 3 weeks for either.
